Branding is a marketing strategy in which a company aims to create a distinct image of its product in the minds of potential customers and establish a distinctive presence in the market in order to keep customers loyal.

A brand is the name, symbol, icon, image, or combination of these that is used to identify the goods and services of a particular seller or group of sellers and differentiate them from those of their competitors. This is a broad term that encompasses a wide range of following concepts:

1. Brand Name

Typically, a company’s brand name is composed of one or more easily pronounced words, letters, or word combinations. A company’s products and services can be identified by their brand name, which distinguishes them from competing brands on the market. Tata Salt, Usha Fans, Nike shoes, and more are examples of this.

2. Brand Mark

Logo, design, shape, or Colour are all examples of a brand mark that can only be recognized through the website’s design and cannot be pronounced. Recognition of the brand improves when a logo is used. MacDonald’s, KFC, etc., are all examples of well-known brands with iconic logos.

3. Trade Mark

The trademark status of a company’s name and logo is established when they are legally protected so that no other company can use them for their own product. Thus, trademarks protect the seller’s right to use the brand name and the brand mark, and prevent others from doing so, as well.

4. Trade Names

The term “trade name” is often used interchangeably with “brand name” or “brand mark,” but it refers to the company’s official name, if possible. However, it serves two purposes: to identify both the product’s manufacturer and the product’s brand name. It’s not uncommon for companies like Toya and Honda to have both a trade and brand name.

5. Patents

Legal protection is granted to new inventions pioneered by any business through the use of patents. Inventors can obtain a monopoly on the use of their own creations by patenting new processes, new products, and new machines. For a set period of time, a patent grants exclusive use of a new invention to the patent holder while barring others from commercially exploiting the invention in any way.

Similar to patents, the copyright protects works of art such as books, plays, music, and other musical compositions from unauthorised use or duplication. Authors are protected by copyright to ensure that no one else can use their work without permission.

What Is the Importance of a Brand?

Businesses and individuals benefit from the creation of brand value. It’s also a way for an organization to stand out from its competitors in the market. An increase in customer base, as well as increased brand loyalty, are the result of successful branding, which increases a company’s competitive edge in the market and boosts its bottom line.
