What is research design?

Simply put, a research design is the strategy behind a study that acts as a road map for data collection and analysis. It’s a guideline for carrying out a research project.

A research plan is the blueprint for gathering information and analysing results. In reality, a road map is drawn up to direct the study.

“Research design is a master plan specifying the methods and procedures for collection and analyzing the needed information.”

William Zikmund

“Research design is the plan, structure and strategy of investigation conceived so as to obtain answers to research questions and to control variance.”

Kerlinger
